The theme of my Google earth tour is great monuments that have been built by man over the millennia. The tour goes across the entire globe an includes ancient as well as contempory monuments. Ancient wonders include the colloseum in rome a symbol of the grandeuer and brutality of the Ancient Romans where gladiators fought to the death and thousand of Christians were persecuted and fed to wild animals. The mystical Machu Picchu in the andes mountains of Peru where Incan nobility lived. Also featured are the giza pyramids where great pharaohs of ancient Egypt were laid to rest and the beautiful Taj Mahal in Agra, India which was commissioned by a heartbroken Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal. The mysterious stone henge where the ancient sun came to prey is also included in the tour. As well what is left of the Ancient Athenian Acropolis which was ravged by the Persians. Modern-day wonders (this term is relative to the Ancient wonders) include New Yorks statue of liberty built to welcome immigrants and americans alike. The elegant Eiffel tower in the beautiful city of Paris, France which managed to survive Nazi occupation. In my opinion the modern buildings lack the charisma and mysticism of the ancient ones. What is really amazing is how innovative and intelligent these ancient civilizations were. Through this trip I hope to enlighten people and show them what mankind was and is capable of building as well as give a brief history/background into the purpose that these monuments served (why they were built) and the key players responsible for there eventual construction.
