MISSISSIPPI RIVER

Mississippi river derives from the old Ojibwe word Misi-ziibi which means the "Big River". Mississippi river is divided into the upper and the lower Mississippi. The upper river is found on the south of Ohio and the lower part is found near New Orleans. The river originates from Lake Itasca in Minnesota it goes through Louisiana and empties its water in the Gulf of Mexico. Mississippi river gets most of its water from Missouri river and Ohio River. It is the second largest river in the United State. It is about 3, 705 km long when measured from Lake Itasca but when measured from the mouth of Missouri it is about 6,270 km long. It has got lot of nicknames some people call it "The father of waters" and some call it "The gathering of waters". Places which are found near Mississippi river are rich in biodiversity [4].
