The second expedition of Columbus continued for three years from 1493-1496 and departed from the Spanish city of Cadiz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus). Columbus set out on his journey with 17 ships and about 1200 crew (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus). Columbus and his crew intended to establish colonies and find gold and other precious metals to bring back to their country (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus).

The ships departed on the 13 October 1493 from the Canary Islands and headed South (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus).
