On the 19th August 1498, the left Grenada and departed to Hispaniola (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus).

The monarchs were extremely displeased with Columbus after his third voyage as he failed to discover the Indies and their spices and other precious commodities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus).

His crew members also complained about his management skills, and to top it all off, Vasco de Gama had successfully returned from his trip to India (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus).
