Patricia Holmes - Biodiversity Specialist

Before she started working for the City of Cape Town as their Biodiversity Specialist, Dr Patricia Holmes was an independent consultant specialising in plant ecology. Some of the projects she undertook include:

  • Restoring Sand Fynbos vegetation: Investigated how treating the soil in different ways affects the growth of lowland fynbos plants.
  • Working for Water Programme: Developed goals for restoring river-side vegetation after removing alien plants from river catchments.
  • Vegetation survey: Surveyed plants and drew up a species list for a private landowner in Bainskloof.
  • Lower Tokai Plantation studies: Studied the biodiversity of this site and drew up a management plan to restore the natural vegetation after pine trees were harvested.
